What a brilliant article. The author makes me see my own journey with young students at JNU. Yes, condemning Gandhi for everything–Dalit oppression, Bhagat Singh episode, partition, women’s oppression,, capitalist exploitation–seems to be radial and fashionable. Seldom does one see a sincere urge to understand Gandhi, his complexity, his experiments, his possibilities and even his epic failures. That is why, when I see an article of this kind it arouses hope: the new generation can see beyond Gandhi-Ambedkar binary, and learn from the Mahatma.
