The Congress is reluctant to form an ally with the AAP before the 2019 election. The Chief Minister is agreeable to offer support to the BJP if Delhi is given full statehood.
The Congress is reluctant to include the AAP in the grand alliance against the BJP in the 2019 elections. It was on Monday that Kejriwal said that he would support the BJP in the 2019 elections if its gives full statehood to Delhi. Kejriwal asserted the possibility of launching an anti-BJP campaign if they its does not allow full statehood to Delhi.
It is being witnessed that several senior opposition leaders like Akhilesh Yadav (Samajwadi Party),Mamata Banerjee (Trinamool Congress) and N. Chandrababu Naidu of the Telugu Desam Party have been in favour of involving AAP in plans to stage a united fight against the BJP and its alliance in the 2019 polls, the Congress does not enjoy a consensus over the issue.
It has been asserted that several of the Congress’s leaders encourage the proposition to ally with AAP in states like Punjab, Delhi, and Haryana
It is in the context of Kejriwal’s statement at a media briefing on Monday tthat took place prior to a special session of the Delhi assembly that needs to be exemplified. Speaking at a press conference, he declared that AAP would campaign for the BJP if it would ensure full statehood to Delhi.
“I want to tell the BJP that if, before the 2019 elections, Delhi is granted statehood, we will make sure that each and every vote from Delhi goes in your favor. We will campaign for you. If you do not do it, then Delhi residents will put up boards saying ‘BJP leave Delhi’,” he said.
In his speech in the Delhi assembly, Kejriwal on Monday recalled that the Prime Minister had promised full statehood for Delhi while he was campaigning for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
