The BJP is once again set for a massive victory as the results for the Karnataka by polls are emerging. The BJP took twelve out of the fifteen seats in a sweeping and clear-cut victory, as the Congress silently accepted its defeat asserting that it respected the people’s mandate even if they had agreed to choose the “defectors” as their leaders.

This clear mandate of the people is indicative of the fact that the BJP government led by CM BS Yediyurappa is all set for a big win in the state. The Congress has conceded its defeat and said that the voters had chosen defectors as their representatives and therefore it had nothing more to do than accept the popular mandate.

The by polls were held across the state in fifteen of the seventeen assembly sears left vacant by MLAs who had resigned in July, causing the collapse of the Congress-Janata Dal(JDS)coalition and the BJP’s takeover.

Now the BJP has to win at least seven seats so that it can be capable of claiming a majority in the assembly, which is going to have 222 members after the by-polls. Two of the seats in the state are still vacant. The BJP currently owns 105 MLAs and the support of an independent candidate and the Congress has 66 and the JDS 34.
