Coronavirus Highlights/ Bihar Government Allegedly Lacks COVID-19 Testing Facilities, Testing Not frequent Enough

  • India has recorded 69,652 new coronavirus cases and the total number of infections has now reached to 28 lakh-mark . The death toll has risen to 53,866 and 2.1M have recovered so far.
  • Worldwide coronavirus cases crossed 22.4M, according to the Johns Hopkins University. The death toll rose to 788K. More than 14.3M people have recovered so far.
  • Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat announced on Twitter, “I am getting admitted to hospital based on doctors’ advice. I appeal to everyone who came in contact with me over the past few days to isolate themselves and get tested.” Mr. Shekhawat is the sixth Union Minister to have tested positive for COVID-19.
  • Bihar has recorded 2884 new COVID-19 positive cases, the toll in the state has reached 1,12,759 and 568 people have died so far. It is reported that state government is not facilitating frequent testing. The private hospitals and testing centers are charging a heavy amount for testing.Kerala’s tally crossed the 50,000-mark on Thursday with over 1,100 new cases registered in the last 24 hours. 
  • Jharkhand decided to initiate a special drive in all districts to identify COVID-19 patients.
  • Schools are soon reopening in Assam, teachers and school staff will be asked to report on September 1. The classes will only begin after the Centre’s  approval.
