In a dramatic play of dynamics in the state of  Maharashtra, it is surprising to see how while the Shiv Sena and the Congress-NCP alliance were all set to form the government with Uddhav Thackery as the CM, BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis was sworn in as the CM earlier in the month.

This was an early morning twist, he has been sworn in as Maharashtra CM for a second time at Raj Bhavan. The NCP leader Ajit Pawar has been sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister. This sudden development came in just hours after the Shiv Sena, the Congress and the NCP announced that the government formation will take place under the leadership of Uddhav Thackery. The three parties were supposed to make a formal announcement today.

The state of Maharashtra had been under President’s rule until this morning but it was revoked at 5.47 am to facilitate the sudden oath ceremony. After taking oath as the new CM of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis said that people had given a clear mandate and since Shiv Sena had tried to play with this mandate, the President’s rule had to be imposed upon the state. He also said that Maharashtra required a stable government and that the BJP would certainly be one.

The BJP had won 105 seats in the 288 member member assembly followed by Shiv Sena  56, NCP 54 and Congress 44.
