What does life-affirming education mean?
“Physics is also about wonder and curiosity; and the more you understand it the more you have a sense of gratitude and reverence—to use Tagore’s musical words, you are privileged to find yourself amidst this extraordinary universe and trying to find how things happen around you. If Physics is reconciled with this poetry, science would acquire a new meaning; it would not be reduced into just instrumental technology.”
The significance of liberal arts in our times
“When a doctor heals your body, you see your body as a carrier of the life-energy through which you would possibly read a good poem, listen to a good song, see a good film, study a book of religion or philosophy. If there is nothing higher to pursue, what do you do with a perfectly medicated body? If no good film is produced, what do you do with the grand design of a cinema hall that the engineer builds?”
This booklet-written in a dialogic form-has emerged out of the urge to initiate a meaningful conversation with young learners, researchers and educationists.

A dialogue on peace in a violent world
“Even though there is no absolute non-violence, it should not be seen as an excuse for perpetuating violence in every sphere of life. To take a simple example, even if I kill a mosquito that bites me when I go to sleep, it should not give me the justication to destroy the entire bio-diversity for a purely man-centric, techno-scientic, development oriented world. In other words, as I feel, non-violence, despite its limitations, is a better and higher ideal to pursue. Even if we fail time and again, we ought to pursue this goal.”
