The state of Delhi is in full election fervour and amidst this electoral festivity, political leaders and parties are leaving no stone unturned in campaigning and wooing the voters.
In a latest development to the election mood in Delhi, West Delhi MP Pravesh Verma has said that if the anti-CAA protests at Shaheen Bagh were to continue any further, Delhi would soon become the new Kashmir. He also made a controversial comment on the Shaheen Bagh protestors and said, “Protestors at Shaheen Bagh can enter our homes and rape our sisters and daughters.” The protestors at Shaheen Bagh are mostly women. This remark was made by him a day after he said that if his party came to power, nobody would be found protesting at Shaheen Bagh. Verma said, “ People of Delhi know that the incident that had happened in Kashmir, the daughters and sisters of Kashmiri Pandits were raped. Similar incidents continued to happen in Uttar Pradesh, Hyderabad, Kerala. Today, a similar situation has arise at a place in Delhi(Shaheen Bagh). Lakhs of people gather there. People of Delhi will have to think and make a decision. They can enter your houses, rape your sisters and daughters and kill them. There’s time today, Modiji and Amit Shah won’t come to save you tomorrow…People are safe until Narendra Modi is the prime minister. If someone else takes charge, nobody will feel safe here.”
He also emphasised that once he came into power he would have all mosques built on government land reoved from his constituency in West Delhi.
Verma’s remarks were in tune with those made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, where he had said, “ February 8 ke subha parivar ke saath, 10 baje se pehle kamal ke nishaan par button dabainge?… Aur mitron, itni zor se dabana woh button ki current se hi sham ko woh Shaheen Bagh wale uthkar chale jaayein(On the morning of February 8, will you, along with your family, press the lotus symbol before 10 am… and friends, press the button so hard that its current forces the protesters at Shaheen Bagh to leave the place by evening).”
Moreover, at a rally held in Rithala, Union Home Minister Anurag Thakur led the chanting with “desh ke gaddaron ko” and the people competed the slogan with “goli maro salon ko.”
