Today in Focus: Kerala Emerges Yet Again as Most Literate State in India

Kerala has once again emerged as the state with the highest literacy rate in India and Andhra Pradesh has featured at the bottom of the list with the lowest literacy rate in the country. The literacy rate in Andhra Pradesh is a meagre 66.4% according to a National Sample Survey Report.After Kerala, the best literacy rate is enjoyed by the state of Delhi, followed by Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Assam. Rajasthan and Bihar are among the worst performers and so are Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The total literacy rate in the country is 77.7%. In rural India, literacy rate is 73.5% and in urban India the literacy rate is 87.7%.


Tourist Destinations Taj Mahal and Agra Fort to Open Amid Pandemic : The government has decided to open important tourist destinations for the public including the Taj Mahal and the Agra Fort from September 21 onward. The tourists will be carefully monitored and the protocol for the pandemic will be strictly adhered to so that these tourist destinations don’t become the cause of the further spread of the infection. The government will also be putting a tight cap on the number of tourists who are allowed to attend the monuments at a time so that social distancing and hygiene norms can be adhered to.

M Venkaiah Naidu Suggests Milk Should Be Made Part of Mid-Day Meal Scheme : The Vice-President of India Venkiah Naidu has suggested that it is very important to make milk an important part of the mid-day meals so that their nutritional levels can be improved. It is in this context that Mr Naidu also urged Union Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani to make sure that this happens. Ms Irani assured him that she would consider including milk in the mid-day meal scheme by making a recommendation for this.
