Delhi Government Gives Clean Chit to Prosecute Kanhaiya Kumar in Sedition Case

Delhi government has given a nod to the police to prosecute Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattarcharya in JNU sedition case.

On Friday the Delhi government gave a final nod to the city police to prosecute the former JNUSU President Kanhaiya Kumar and two others in connection with the sedition case of 2016. The file has been with the Home department since May 5,2019.

The official records suggest that the police had applied to the Delhi government for prosecution sanction just two hours prior to the filing of the charge sheet in the case on January 14,209.

In the absence of a sanction, the court has been continually deferring taking cognisance of the charge sheet.
