Aligarh Muslim University(AMU) is experiencing massive protests by its students against the Citizenship(Amendment)Bill which has now successfully been passed in both the Houses of the Parliament. Thousands of students of AMU are continuing their ongoing protests against the CAB by now resorting to a refusal to take their meals.On Wednesday, 25,000 students residing in 19 hostels did not have their meals at their dining halls to protests against the contentious Citizenship(Amendment)Bill. The students boycotted their meals to assert their protests against the anti-constitutional and anti-secular bill.
In another shocking development in association with the ongoing countrywide protests against the Citizenship(Amendment) Bill which recently got a thumbs up in both the Houses of the Parliament, an FIR has been filed against 500 students from the Aligarh Muslim University(AMU) and the security has been tightened on the campus.
Matters have become so tense on campus that Rapid Action Force gas been deployed at all the entry points of the campus. An unsettling calmness prevails the campus at this point in time after an FIR was filed against more than 5oo students of AMU.
On Thursday night, the police had filed a report against 20 studiers leaders and 5oo other unnamed persons for having defied the prohibitory orders under Section 144 and conducting a massive protests near the Faiz Gate of the university campus.
Section 144 had been camped all over the city and the students had made an attempt to violate its provisions and had marked to the University Circle and tried to disturb the peace according to the police officials. They also said that since the students had engaged in violence, an FIR had been filed against them. The proctor of AMU Prof. Afifullah Khan said that while it was true that the students had taken out a protest march from the University Library till the University Circle to protest against the CAB, the protests were not violent but largely peaceful in nature.
