An Ode to Pran: The “Villain of the Millennium”

Describing the legendary film actor Pran is an immensely challenging task because not only did he accomplish fascinating roles in more than 300 films but also because although he played a villain in most of his works, he was loved and revered by the young and the old alike. The late Pran was one of the most celebrated and acclaimed actors of Indian cinema. He had a long career spanning more than six decades between 1940-1980. He acted in more than 350 films. It would not be wrong to say that the late Pran was a powerhouse performer and gave a large number of impressive performances. He was known for his strong screen presence, impeccable dialogue delivery and acting in films such as Khandaan, Madhumati,Dil Diya Dard Liya, Ram Aur Shyam, His Desh Mein Gang Behti Has among several others. He also played very lovable roles in films like Imaan, Zanjeer, Don, Amar Akbar Anthony and Duniya.

It wouldn’t be wrong to say that the late Plan was “The Villain of the Millennium”. Pran’s enigmatic screen presence, powerful voice and memorable style of delivering a dialogue- made him a memorable actor of our times. Some of his most memorable dialogues are here.
