The Uttar Pradesh Sunni Central Waqf Board on Monday made up its mind to accept the five acres of land that have been allotted to it for the construction of the mosque near Ayodhya. This is in accordance with the Supreme Court’s very important verdict that came last year in the context of the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case. The board held a meeting in Lucknow on Monday where it decided to make a trust that would look after the construction of a mosque at Dhannipur. Dhannipur is located at a distance of 30Kms from Ayodhya on the Lucknow- Gorakhpur highway. The board will also construct a Indo-Islamic research centre, a hospital and a library on this five acres of land.
The Sunni Waqf Board was one of key litigants in the Ayodhya title dispute, it comprised of eight individuals from different walks of life. The size of the mosque will be decided in accordance with the local needs. The district administration feels that this was the best piece of land that could be offered to the board for the construction of the mosque. The allotment letter of the land had been allotted to the board earlier in the month.
It was in November 2019, that the Supreme Court had ordered and given a clean chit to the construction of the Ram Temple by a trust at the disputed site at Ayodhya and directed the Centre to allot an alternative five acre plot to the Sunni Waqf Board for the construction of a new mosque at a “prominent”place in Uttar Pradesh.
