As the whole country is presently trying to strengthen efforts towards controlling and containing the spread of the coronavirus infection, the latest study from Lancet is worth our attention.
The Lancet study underlines the fact that the districts of Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Telangana are the most vulnerable as far as the spread of the coronavirus is concerned. The study tells us that districts in Madhya Pradesh are the most vulnerable to the spread of the coronavirus infection and these are followed by districts in Bihar and Telangana.
The study has made this stark revelations about the growing vulnerability of these states based on different indicators like hygiene, housing and the available health system in these states.
The researchers have gone on to underline the fact that when they say that districts in these states are vulnerable, they mean that they face a greater risk of spread, infection, mortality and socio-economic impact from the coronavirus as opposed to other states.
The study notes that out of the 30 large states, nine including Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Telangana, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Odisha and Gujarat are among the most vulnerable as far as the impact of the coronavirus pandemic is concerned. The Lancet study rates the extent to which a particular state is vulnerable to the coronavirus on a scale of 0-1.
This is measured using 15 indicators that cut across five aspects namely demographic, socio-economic, hygiene and housing and epidemiological and health system.
The study is very important because it will help plan pandemic mitigation policies in these states and make these states better equipped to deal with the coronavirus pandemic in the coming months.
