The Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav is going take place between 13th to 17th December at New Delhi’s Raman Baug ground. It is a music festival that will witness performances from both new and veteran artists in honor of the work and contributions of the legendary vocalist Pandit Bhimsen Joshi.

For anyone who is interested in the realm of the Hindustani classical music not coming to know of a genius like Pandit Bhimsen Joshi is almost next to impossible. The great vocalist lived from 1922-2011 and is considered one of the legends of the Hindustani classical music. He is best known for the Khayal form of singing and also for his renditions of popular devotional songs or bhajans. He was awarded with the nation’s highest civilian award the Bharat Ratna in the year 2009.
His music continues to win over the hearts of music lovers across the world and the presence that he carved for himself on the global platform can never be taken by any other artist. He will forever be remembered and revered for his great contributions to the field of arts and music. To pay tribute to the great maestro some of his key associates and disciples have been organising a music event where his genre of music is revered and celebrated by both artists and music lovers alike.
The Gandharva Mahotsava(the music festival organised to honour the master) this year will see performances by both new and veteran artists. These performances will be held until Sunday for people to enjoy and relish. Artists performing at the prestigious program include Bhuvanesh Komkali, grandson of Kumar Gandharv; Kaushiki Chakraborty, disciple and daughter of Ajay Chakrabarty; veteran vocalist Pt Jasraj; Pt Ulhas Kashalkar; Jaipur-Atrauli gharana’s Aarti Ankalikar-Tikekar, and National Award-winning vocalist Mahesh Kale, and sitar player Ustad Shujaat Khan and many others. This festival will be concluded with a performance by veteran vocalist Prabha Atre of Kirana gharana.
