Farmers Undertake 180 km Long March to Reassert Their Rights in Mumbai

A large scale protest by over 30,000 farmers is being launched in Mumbai to assert the rights of the farmer community. The All India Kisan Sabha is organising this protest and farmers in large numbers are participating.

In the state of Maharashtra farmers are launching a large scale protest in the capital city of Mumbai. More than 30,000 farmers have been protesting against the Maharashtra government to demand a complete loan waver and they are as an organisation moving towards Mumbai.

It is planned that the farmers will gherao the Maharashtra Assembly after they reach Mumbai on 12 March for demanding a certain resolution with the Maharashtra government. These protests had begun on March 6 from Nasik. The march is a 180 km long and this protest has been put together by the organisation called the All India Kisan Sabha(AIKS).

The farmres who have taken part in these protests are demanding for a complete waiver of electricity bills and loans and asserting that the recommendations that have been out forward by the Swaminathan Commission are implemented.

The President of the AIKS is going to lead this march and protest.  The president said that the governments were imposing anti-farmer policies.
