The United States on Monday issued a warning to Syria that any further chemical attacks against civilians would lead to dire consequences for the nation. In April 2018, the US, France and Britain launched a collective attack on Syria after a chemical attack on the city of Douman left more than 70 innocent people dead.

Syria’s civil war is one of the worst contemporary human rights violations taking places in West Asia. Syria shares borders with Lebanon, Turkey, Iraq, Jordan, and Israel. The Syrian civil war is an on-going armed conflict between the Ba’athist Syrian Arab Republic led by President Bashar al-Assad and various forces opposing the government.
The civil war started in 2011 to remove the Assad Government. The government violently suppressed this protest. The civil war has provided a space for international players. Iran, Russia, and Hezbollah helped the Syrian Government, conducted air operations in September 2015. And the United States of America led international coalition has conducted airstrikes against ISIL as well as against the Syrian government.
Turkey is supporting the Syrian opposition and occupying large swathes of Northwest Syrian. The civil war took about 400000 lives, and thousands of people became homeless. Syria ’s estimated population in pre-war times was of 22 million.
Today the United Nations recognizes that 13.5 million Syrians needed humanitarian assistance from which 6 million people are internally displaced within Syria, and around 5 million refugees are outside of Syria.
The reason behind the attack from international stakeholders is that Syria is one of the largest oil reserves in West Asia. The US has been actively engaging in the Syrian war. For the past two decades, the US is constantly attacking in West Asia in the name of terrorism in order to acquire oil reserves from the West Asian countries.
The United States of America has warned Syria that there would be dire consequences if it uses chemical weapons. Being an economically prosperous nation, the US should have played a major role in establishing peace instead of warning Syria with assertions of a counter attack. To maintain peace, each state should respect the sovereignty of the Syrian state. War isn’t a solution to end another war but peaceful talks and sustained democratic cultures are the amicable solutions to end the Syrian civil war.
