A Quick Glimpse of the Flood Situation

Incessant rainfall in Maharashtra has brought the state into a standstill. On Saturday, heavy rains battered the state once again leaving hundreds of people stranded and helpless. Although the flood situation has improved in the states of Bihar and Assam, the condition of Maharashtra is still a matter of grave concern.

The weather department has said that the state can expect more rain over the next couple of days. The Meteorological Department has cautioned people and said that a high degree of rainfall on a high-tide day are terrible combinations at the Arabian Sea and it should discourage people from venturing into the open seas due to the associated risks.

Thousands of people also remained stranded on stations that fall between Thane and Panvel. Trains were widely hit by water logging on the railway tracks. It was also noted that the incessant rains led to the flowing of the Godavari river much above the danger mark.

People living on the banks of the river were issued a warning bu the state. Water had been released from many dams in the state in great quantities in the last few days and this had made the situation at hand much harder.

Several rivers in the state of Gujarat were also flowing above the danger mark due to the incessant rainfall in the state. NDRF teams have also been deployed in many parts of Gujarat to ensure that matters don’t go out of hand in the state.

It is also forecasted that the eastern coast of India is likely to receive more rainfall in the coming few days. Among the most affected are going to be the states of Odisha and West Bengal. Meanwhile the floods have claimed another life in Assam, mounting the toll to 89 in this season.
