Their appeal is a response to the repeated attack on artists and writers under the present regime.  The appeal says “Writers, artists, filmmakers, musicians and other cultural practitioners have been hounded, intimidated and censored. Anybody who questions the power is in danger of being harassed or arrested on false and ridiculous charges.”

Under the present regime writers, activists, journalists and artists like Narendra Dabholkar, Govind Pansre, M.M. Kalburgi, Gauri Lankesh, T.M Krishna, Anil Teltumbde have been attacked. But despite the resistance, the attacks have continued.

The angst of the writer’s fraternity is against the evading space of freedom in the country, as a last resort the union decided to appeal and make people understand that the politics of hate fractures the democratic rubric of the country.

In order to stop this hate politics, writers therefore have appealed to the Indian masses that the first step that they can take is to vote out hate politics. Vote out division of our people, vote out inequality, vote against violence, intimidation and censorship.
