Babies Born Aboard Shramik Trains Need a Future, Not Gifts

It is quite interesting to note that since May 1, more than 37 babies have been born on board Shramik Special Trains and on railway premises. 

It is in this context that the East Coast Railway has come up with a new and interesting policy for such children. 

It has announced its plans of sponsoring gifts to such children born on the Shramik Special Trains in its effort to empower and help the new mothers. This effort is said to be completely voluntary by the offices of the zone and the gift will either be in the form of cash or kind.  

The first sponsorship for such a child came from the general manager if the Zone. The general manager of the zone, Vidya Bhushan himself sent a sum of Rs 5,000 to the mother of the child who was born on Friday. The baby was the third child born in the zone so far.

Records suggest that since May 1, about 37 chidden have been born on board Shramik Special Trains throughout the country or on premises run and owned by the Indian Railways.

It was on Friday, that a nineteen year old Meena Kumbhar gave birth to a baby boy while she was aboard a train. A railway doctor attended and examined the baby and the mother and found them both to be healthy and hearty. The baby and the mother were later then to the Titilagarh government hospital and are under the supervision if the medical authorities.

This was the third child born on board the Shramik Special Train in East Costal Railway jurisdiction and also in Odisha. All the children and their mothers have been shifted to government hospitals for care and supervision.  

The General Manager of the Eastern Coastal Railway made an announcement today that officials and personnel will be encouraged to come up on a voluntary basis and sponsor the babies born on the route. Many officials have been coming forward to sponsor gift cards for the babies and even shown interest in supporting the families financially.

Earlier, a migrant woman had given birth to a baby on a Shramik Special Train at Balangir on May 22 and another baby was born aboard a Shramik Train on May 22 at Titilagarh.
