The AgustaWestland chopper deal has brought the UPA under the tight scanner after a youth leader appeared in court for the middleman in the deal.

On December 4, 2018 Christian Michel, the alleged middleman in the ₹3,600 crore AgustaWestland VVIP chopper deal case was extradited to India from UAE. Next morning he was sent to five-day CBI custody by a Delhi court. This deal case has questioned the UPA government’s role and what has increased the trouble more is that Congress Youth Leader Aljo K Joseph appeared for Michel in court on Wednesday and the Congress expelled Joseph after his appearance in court and cleared that he did not consult the party before appearing in the case.

February 12, 2013: Giuseppe Orsi – Finmeccanica chief arrested by Italian police for alleged payoffs.
March 13, 2013: CBI registers case against retired IAF chief S.P. Tyagi and 12 others.
March 20, 2015: ED attaches assets worth Rs. 1.12 crore of British national Christian Michel James
November 2015: Interpol Red Notice issued against Christian Michel.
February 2017: Authorities in UAE arrest Christian Michel. CBI makes a request for his extradition.
September 1, 2017: CBI files chargesheet against Tyagi and 11 others.
November 19, 2018: Court proceedings on the extradition request against Christian Michel conclude in UAE
December 4, 2018: Christian Michel is brought back to India and he sent to five-day CBI custody by a Delhi court.
