The coronavirus pandemic has been taking the world by storm and has been impacting people across communities. Here are the top coronavirus updates that have been making news.

  1. On Wednesday alone India reported 60,964 cases and now the total number of cases in India is 23,29639. The recovery rate has reached almost 70% and the active cases now stand at 27.64% according to the Union Health Ministry data. The fatality rate has come down to 1.98%.
  2. On Wednesday, the Capital of Delhi reported  1,113 new coronavirus positive cases and 14 deaths. 
  3. Uttar Pradesh has reported 4,475 new cases over the last 24 hours and 54 people have succumbed to the infection.
  4. While Russia released the first coronavirus vaccine, Randeep Guleria who is the Director of AIIMS said that its safety has to be ensured before it can be released for the help of people.
  5. Police officials in Karnataka have arrested a group of people for allegedly selling spurious sanitisers to people, upon consuming which 16 people had died in the month of July. The people who had consumed it had actually seen it as a replacement for liquor.
  6. In more worrying news for Maharashtra, 264 people working in the police department have tested coronavirus positive and three people have also died due to the infection.
  7. Former President of India, Pranab Mukherjee is still critical and on ventilator. He has been admitted to the Army Research and Referral Hospital, Delhi.
  8. The ILO has said that more than half of the world’s young people are becoming prone to anxiety due to the loss of jobs and career uncertainties that have been multiplied by the coronavirus pandemic.
  9. New Zealand has reported four new cases of coronavirus after remaining virus free for over 100 days.
  10. 10. The number of global coronavirus infected people has now risen to 2.02 crore according to the Johns Hopkins University. The worldwide toll is now 7,41, 423 and more than 1.25 crore individuals have recovered from the virus.
