In an important development, it has been reported that a delegation of MPs from the European Union have come to India to make a visit to Jammu and Kashmir.  Ahead of their visit to Jammu and Kashmir, they met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi who said that the visit should offer a clearer view of the development and governance priorities of the region. The twenty seven MPs who are visiting India will fly to Jammu and Kashmir. Restrictions are in place since the Centre’s decision to end special status to the state under Article 370 and split it into two union territories. This will be the first visit of any international delegation to Jammu and Kashmir after the Centre’s move. The list includes lawmakers belonging to Europe’s right wing parties.  Last week, a group of US Makers expressed concern about the situation in Jammu and Kashmir following the Centre’s move to end the special status granted under the Constitution and bifurcate it into two union territories.

The Congress questioned the government’s decision of allowing a European delegation to visit Jammu and Kashmir while preventing Indian leaders from going to Jammu and Kashmir, they also said that it was an insult to Indian democracy.
