The Kerala High Court went ahead and dismissed the state government’s petition with regard to the privatisation proposal for the Thiruvanathapuram International Airport. The state government had filed a petition in the Kerala High Court against the privatisation proposal for the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport in the hands of the Adani group.
The Central government’s decision to lease out the operation, management and development of the Thiruvanathapuram Airport to the Adani group for the next 50 years, didn’t sink in well with the state government and it appealed to the Kerala High Court to rethink the proposal.
The Thiruvanthapuram International Airport is among six other airports for which the Adani group had won the lease for maintenance and control in 2019. Ever since the decision has been announced by the Centre, the Kerala government has protested the move and has said that it will not cooperate with the process of privatisation and has even sent letters to PM Narendra Modi stating that the state wouldn’t like to cooperate on such a project or in the implementation of the privatisation decision.
Congress also joined the government in its protest. The Kerala government also said that its claim to manage the Thiruvanathapuram airport had been rejected by the Centre even when it offered to match the bid put forward by Adani. Other than the Thiruvananthapuram Airport, the Adani group will be running other airports such as those in Lucknow, Jaipur, Mangaluru, Ahmedabad and Guwahati.
