Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on Tuesday making it the seventh address made by him since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in the nation. In his address to the people of the nation, PM Narendra Modi said that although the lockdown has been lifted and the public spaces have opened up to a great extent, the fact remains that the coronavirus pandemic is still a reality and we must not forget it. Speaking of the upcoming festivities in India and the resultant vibrancy seen in the markets and shopping complexes, he said that we should at no point dare to forget that we find ourselves amid the pandemic and that we should not allow ourselves to overlook this reality.He said that it was through the efforts of the fellow Indians that the situation in India could be brought under control but it was also our collective responsibility to ensure that the situation doesn’t deteriorate any further and we are able to successfully fight the coronavirus pandemic.
PM Modi said, “Many people have stopped taking precautions now. This is not right. If you are careless, waking out without mask, then you are putting yourself, your family, your family’s children, the elderly in as much trouble.”
PM Narendra Modi has been addressing the nation time and again ever since the coronavirus pandemic broke out in the country and the nation saw a lockdown beginning in the month of March. He has been speaking about the various measures being taken to deal with the pandemic and has used such opportunities to speak about the economic interventions made by the Centre to deal with the economic and financial implications of the pandemic, this includes taking of packages for the welfare of various communities and groups of people in the country.
His last address was on June 30, and he had announced an extension of the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, which is a program to provide free ration for more than 80 crore people. These people largely comprise of the poorest section of the society till the end of November. Prior to the speech of PM Narendra Modi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had said that in his address the prime minister should talk about India’s status in dealing with the Chinese and asked him to announce by when he would be able to remove the Chinese from the Indian territory.
India has been seeing less than 50,000 new cases for the first time since the last three months. The coronavirus infection has affected a total of 7.6 million people in the county and over 587 deaths have been reported in the last twenty-four hours. The toll has reached 1,15,197.
