The students of Allahabad University were protesting against the eviction of students from hostels before summer vacations which led to fight with administration and police.
Protesters in Allahabad University were protesting against the university’s order to vacate hostels before the summer holidays. The students allege that they were told to vacate the rooms within a week. Students pelted stones at the vehicles in the area and set several vehicles on fire including a police van. The students had assembled at the university’s Union Hall to protest against the order but the protest turned violent.
The police began to utilise baton charge to disperse the protesters. The Uttar Pradesh Provincial Armed Constabulary squads and additional personnel attempted to detain several protesters and raid hostels to detain the agitators but failed in it.
The Allahabad University Proctor Ram Sevak Dubey informed hostel residents on Monday that an eviction drive would begin from June 12. Students were ordered to vacate their rooms within a week, and those who had exams were to informed that they would be accommodated elsewhere.
