The abrogation of Article 370 removing the special constitutional status of Jammu and Kashmir and the aftermath of the communication blockade in the Valley-  has destabilised the people and has brought life at a standstill for many. Amidst this political turn of events, it is believed that the it is the children of the Valley who must be undergoing deep psychological trauma.

Thus to deal with the short and long term trauma that the lockdown and communication blockade in the Valley must have created for the children, the Srinagar Government has decided to take necessary steps.

The Srinagar Government College’s Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences(IMHANS) has decided to come up with necessary steps to deal with children suffering from trauma.

They believe that the recent happenings in the Valley have been taking a toll on the children ad their routine has been disturbed completely.

The children have no access to schools, no internet, no books and no freedom to play outdoors. This makes them vulnerable to psycho-social vulnerabilities according to the doctors at IMHANS.

The plan is to reach districts of Pulwama, Kulgam, Shopian, Anantnag- the centres especially designed in these districts would provide psychological first-aid to the children.

The plan is to be able to cater to children suffering from psycho-social trauma in these difficult tomes and help them look beyond fear and dysfunctional social spaces.

It would be a platform where children would share their stories and engage in peer interaction-this would help create a protective mechanism.
