Police sources reveal that Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi have now been granted permission to go to Hathras and meet the victim’s family. The Congress leaders will be accompanied by three other members of the party for the visit. But when Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi reached the DND flyover, they were initially stopped by the police but after a while they were allowed to proceed with the journey. A heavy deployment of police personnel has been made to prevent leaders of the Opposition and the Congress in particular from entering the premises of the site where the incident took place but now with the new proceedings, a five member delegation of the Congress has been granted the permission to enter by crossing the border. Rahul Gandhi had announced in his tweets that he would continue to make attempts to enter Hathras after being initially denied the permission to do so and he said that he would make all efforts to meet the victim’s family. The Hathras gang-rape victim was a nineteen year old girl from the Dalit community and she was brutally assaulted and murdered. Her body was cremated on the night of September 30 without her family’s consent or without allowing them to look at the body even once. This is the second time that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is making an effort to go to Hathras.

It was on October 1 that he and his party members were arrested on the Yamuna Expressway and briefly detained at a guest-house at Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida. Meanwhile the joint-magistrate of Hathras told the media that since Section 144 has been imposed in Hathras, no political leaders are allowed to enter.
