The crisis in Karnataka continues and we still don’t know what the result of the resignation of a large number of rebel MLAs from the state assembly might be. The speaker in the state assembly is finding it extremely difficult to make a decision in this matter and has sought time to make up his mind whether to accept or not their resignations.
The rebel MLAs appeared before him on Thursday and the speaker told them that he would require more time to understand whether the resignations that have been submitted are voluntary and genuine.
The speaker Ramesh Kumar said that it was only now that the resignations have been submitted in the correct format but despite that he would require time to examine and make a decision on them. He also asserted that as a speaker he would abide by all the rules and arrive at a just decision. He also said that since the decision will be purely based on justice, it may prove convenient for some and inconvenient for others.
The MLAs have been meanwhile rushed to Mumbai, where they had been camping ever since they submitted their resignations.
The speaker also said that the detailed recordings of the meeting will also be sent to the Supreme Court. He said that it was the Supreme Court that had asked him to arrive at a decision. He also said that neither was he responsible for the current political scenario nor will he be responsible for the outcome.
Ten Karnataka rebel MLAs came back to Bengaluru from Mumbai, after the Supreme Court allowed them to come and meet the speaker of the assembly in the context of the submission of their resignations. Immediately after meeting the speaker and submitting their resignations in the correct format, the MLAs were rushed back to Mumbai.
The resignation of 16 MLAs( 13 from Congress and three from JDS)has made the coalition government very unstable and it is on the verge of collapse.
