The political turmoil in Rajasthan has aggravated into a full-fledged war between those who support erstwhile Deputy CM Sachin Pilot and those who are siding by CM Gehlot. While CM Gehlot alleged Sachin Pilot of being in talks with the BJP and there being chances of it claiming a large number of Congress MLAs including Mr. Pilot and his allies and breaking down the Congress led government in Rajasthan, Sachin Pilot’s aides suggested that there were indeed tensions brewing between the two fractions within the state Congress.
After three days of turmoil and political upheaval, Mr Pilot went on to clarify that he has no intensions of joining the BJP and even if his own party had taken legal action against him for engaging in “anti-party activities” and dismissing him from the post of Deputy Chief Minister, he said that he had no plans of going to the BJP.
Meanwhile veteran Congress leaders such as the party’s spokesperson RS Surjewala while taking a sigh of relief said that if Mr. Pilot had no plans of joining the BJP then he and his loyalists should return back to Jaipur and not stay put in a resort under the BJP government’s protection in Haryana.
The Congress party has expressed its keen interest in retaining Mr. Pilot but has clearly expressed its inability to make him the Chief Minister instead of Mr. Ashok Gehlot. The fact that CM Ashok Gehlot seems to have gathered sufficient support within his party and his well above the majority mark has granted them stability and this might be one of the reasons why Mr. Sachin Pilot thought it inadvisable to split from the party as of now.
