There is a new development as far as the politics of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir is concerned, reports tell us that after a controversial convoy from the European Union made a visit to the Jammu and Kashmir region, a group of Union ministers will be making a visit there later in the week. The main purpose of the visit would be to spread awareness about the alleged positive implications of the Centre’s decision to revoke the special constitutional status of the erstwhile state.
This would be an important event to watch out for because this would be the first visit ever by Union ministers since the government decided to abrogate the region’s special status under Article 370 of the Constitution on August 5 and divided it into Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
The ministers have been given the task of educating the people about the developmental measures and schemes that have been taken up by the government for the region.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah wanted that all members of the Union Council of ministers should visit Jammu and Kashmir, with the “objective of disseminating information about the importance of the government policies with regard to the overall development of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and its people along with the steps taken up by the government of India in this direction particularly in the last five months,” a letter sent by the Union Minister of the State of Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy noted, as reported in The Indian Express. The minsters are scheduled to make a visit to Jammu and Kashmir from January 18-24.
According to the letter, these ministers have also been sent “background material” about the developmental activities that the government has taken up in the Valley thorough email. Anurag Thakur, Giriraj Singh, Prahalad Joshi, Renuka Singh, Jitendra Singh and Piyush Goyal are some of the ministers who will make the visit.
