The Supreme Court has agreed to hear the Delhi Government’s plea over its powers from the upcoming week. This will hopefully solve the deadlock between Kejriwal and the Centre.

The Supreme Court has finally agreed to hear the appeals of the Delhi government relating to the scope of its various powers in the next week in the context of the recent verdict by a Constitution bench that asserted that the Lieutenant Governor has no power to take independent decisions.
A five-judge Constitution bench led by Chief Justice Dipak Misra had recently released the wider framework for the governance of the national capital that had seen a power struggle between the Centre and Delhi government since the time Arvind Kejriwal’s Party came to power in 2014.The bench asserted that issues pertaining to several notices issued by the Delhi government in exercise of its administrative and legislative powers would be handled independently by a suitable smaller bench.
The bench that comprised of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud considered the submission of the Delhi government that post the verdict the stalemate over the issue of public services continued and required to be dealt with by an adequate bench.
The apex court had earlier vindicated Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who had asserted that the LG was preventing his government from functioning appropriately.
It had emphasised that except for three issues- police public order and land, the Delhi government had the power to legislate and govern in other domains.
