The former BSF constable Tej Bahadur Yadav had sought to fame in 2017 after a video of his exposing the quality of food served to the armed personnel went viral on social media. He was sacked from his job immediately.

He had decided to contest the elections from the joint opposition alliance of SP, BSP and RLD from Varanasi constituency in UP. Varanasi is also a much talked about constituency because it is also the place from where PM Narendra Modi is contesting.

His nomination papers were cancelled by the EC citing inherent discrepancies.

Former BSF jawan Tej Bahadur had challenged the Supreme Court’s decision to ban his candidature from Varanasi against PM Narendra Modi.

In response, Tej Bahadur Yadav had challenged the decision of the Supreme Court of rejecting his nomination from the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh. His papers had been rejected citing discrepancies.

The intermediate court had requested the EC to look into the case and get back. The nomination of Tej Bahadur Yadav was filed against PM Narendra Modi from the opposition alliance consisting of SP, BSP and RLD. It must be acknowledged that Tej Bahadur Yadav is the same man who was sacked from the BSF after a video of him complaining about the quality of food served to the security personnel went viral in 2017.

It was in the context of this case that a bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi said that the SC found no grounds for considering Tej Bahadur’s plea. Yadav in his poll plea had termed the decision of the poll panel discriminatory and unreasonable and said that its decision was unfair towards him.
