Today in Focus: Supreme Court Asserts Usage of Complete Transparency in PM Cares Fund After Congress Raises Doubts
A recent verdict by the Supreme Court dismisses all speculations around the transparency of the PM Cares Fund and said that it has retained complete transparency as far as its management of funds is concerned. The Opposition and the Congress in particular had been alleging that the PM Cares Fund has “its own opaque and murky rules” and said that it requires transparency as far as using the funds is concerned.
Hitting out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Union Law and IT Minister Ravi Shankar said that the Opposition and the Congress were constantly engaged in deviating the attention of the country from the fight against the pandemic and asserted that there was complete transparency as far as the funds under PM Cares was concerned and that the NDA had so far not even faced a single accusation of corruption. Prasad went on to say ,“Rahul Gandhi questioned PM Cares Fund but the Supreme Court has shot down all his arguments. Transparency is writ large in PM Cares Fund both in terms of legal requirements and transparent management of funds received on a voluntary basis.” He also condemned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s intentions and said that he never misses an opportunity to weaken the country’s resolve to fight against the coronavirus pandemic. The Supreme Court also ruled that there is no need to transfer money from the PM Cares Fund to the National Disaster Relief Fund (NDRF)and also went on to dismiss the petition that alleged that the Centre was not divulging information on the money received so far under the PM Cares Fund.
Congress Leaders Catch Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s Attention, Demand Immediate Inquiry : The controversy around the social media site Facebook and its alleged role in promoting hate content in India has been looming large in India and the Congress has been hitting at the BJP quite fiercely. It is in this context that Congress wrote a letter to the CEO of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg and demanded that he set up a high-level committee that would inquire into whether the allegations made against it in The Wall Street Journal hold true or not. The letter has been sent by Congress General Secretary KC Venugopla and said that the findings of the committee must be made public within two months from now. The report that had bee published in The Wall Street Journal said that the “hate-speech rules” were not applied in India despite their potential for spreading violence and discontent. It is in this context that Facebook India’s Public Policy Director Ankhi Das has been questioned and an FIR has been registered against her for her alleged involvement in the case.

After Bihar and Assam, Incessant Rains Bring Flood Havoc in Telangana :Incessant rainfall in many parts of Telangana has been leading to a flood like situation in the state and the weather department has issued a red alert and warned that it may continue to rain at least for the upcoming three days. The Chief Minister of the state K Chandrashekhar Rao has asked all the district officials to remain on high alert as water bodies in the state continue to overflow and has ordered the setting up of two control rooms in Hyderabad. The water in the Godavari River that flows through the state has touched 55 feet and is well above the danger mark and the administration has been compelled to issue a flood alert especially 300 kms to the northeast of Hyderabad which appears to be the worst effected at present. Many teams are doing rescue operations and many disaster management teams are also at work at the affected districts. One of the worst affected districts is Warangal, a portion of the highway has also been washed away and people in low lying areas have been transported to the safer locations.
