When the first train carrying migrant workers from Telangana chugged into Hatia railway station near Ranchi at midnight, Jharkhand created history by becoming the first state where a passenger train reached its destination despite a nationwide lockdown. This special train meant for ferrying stranded migrant workers back to their respective states carried around 1,200 migrants from Jharkhand.
What is more, to oversee the arrangements and to witness the historic movement, Chief Minister Hemant Soren was himself present at the Hatia station. The incoming guests were welcomed by their native state with flowers, food packets and bottles of mineral water and these were offered to each of the passengers who were earlier properly screened at the railway station. These passengers were then asked to board the 56 buses that had been lined up outside the Hatia railway station.
To amplify the arrangements, the state government also had kept ready four reserve buses and ambulances at the Hatia station as these migrant workers had travelled for more than nineteen hours from Telangana to Jharkhand. The DC and SSP of Ranchi were also present at the occasion to oversee that the workers were sent via respective buses smoothly.
Out of the 1,200 migrant workers, the highest number of workers were from Palamu(269), while the lowers from Koderma(2).
It would not be wrong to say that Hemant Soren created history by bringing back migrant workers to the state amid the lockdown while workers from other states continue to be stranded in different corners of the country. Hemant Soren meticulously planned the return of migrants and his endeavours are really praiseworthy.
