The Supreme Court has deferred the hearing of PILs against the Shaheen Bagh protest on February 26 after the appointed interlocutors submitted the report in an enclosed envelope. The advocates who had been appointed as the interlocutors were Sadhna Ramachandran and Sanjay Hegde. They placed the report before a bench of Justices SK Kaul and KM Joseph.
The bench took a note of the report and said that it had decided to purse this matter on February 26. The bench also said that this report would not be shared with the petitioners and the counsels representing the Centre and the Delhi Police at this stage.
It is to be noted that the Supreme Court is hearing PILSs against the ongoing protests against the contentious CAA and the blockade of the roads that is allegedly leading to difficulties for many commuters in the nearby areas. Chief Information Commissioner Wajahat Habibullah said that several roads which had no connection to the protest site had been barricaded by the Police unnecessarily, abdicting their responsibilities and duties and wrongly laying the blame upon those protesting at Shaheen Bagh.
